“Ogrody” is the name for a painting technique developed by Jacques Gassmann.
In 1998 the Ogrody Green was copyrighted by the artist .”Ogrody” is Polish for garden.
The application and removal of ink and water creates a cycle of creation and decay. On canvav the artist develops an organic and mysterious process which is like watching the seasons change in a garden.
Through applying the ogrody layers, the artist submerges the motif deep into the painting. Thus protecting the motif from being used and appropriated by the viewer (What does the picture tell me…? What does the artist want to tell me…? ). The only chance to get something out of the picture is to let yourself be fully immersed . In 1993 Jacques Gassmann first realized an installation with this technique in Poznan, Poland. Since then numerous series and paintings have been created under the name Ogrody.
